About Lhyfe DB Tübingen
Lhyfe has built and will operate a green hydrogen production plant for Deutsche Bahn in Tübingen, Germany. Located in the innovation hub of DB Energie (a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn), the electrolysis plant has an annual production capacity of up to 30 tonnes, supported by an installed electrolysis capacity of 1 MW. The green electricity required for hydrogen production will be sourced from Deutsche Bahn’s green electricity portfolio.
At the Tübingen Innovation Hub, DB Energie is testing new technologies for sustainable rail energy, including the “H2goesRail” project.
The project aims to demonstrate the economic viability of hydrogen solutions in the transport and mobility sector. Hydrogen-powered trains are a clean and efficient alternative to conventional diesel trains, offering a virtually CO2-free option.
Lhyfe aims to gain experience in the operation of a largely autonomous system and in the direct coupling of hydrogen production to a large-scale refuelling station. The project involves managing the complexities of hydrogen production, multiple compression stages, storage and refuelling.
